Will set his right foot up on the split-rail fence and re-tied his boot laces, making them as tight as the left.
After doubling the knot, he stared vacantly at the toe of the boot and its random scars before putting it down.
Ten weeks had passed since the fog lifted.
He had been Will the Willing, pliable and meek, and in a blink he became Will the Willful, stubborn and focused.
He slung on the pack, did a token hitch to adjust to the feel of the weight, looked up the trail, and took
that first, most difficult step.
